The Aegis Trust conducted Peace and Values Education Training, 3-5 March, for 25 young participants from various parts of Kigali, focusing on developing their peacebuilding capabilities.

Held in the Kigali Community Peace Centre at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the training forms part of ASPIRE (Actions for Sustainable Peace, Inclusion, Rights & Equality), a four-year programme (2021-2025) centred on youth involvement in peacebuilding efforts.

Workshop sessions covered the pathways to violence and peace; leadership skills and public speaking; project development, basic knowledge of trauma healing and mental health support, and gender equality and inclusivity.

Participants shared their experiences following the workshop. Christella Igihozo stated, “I always knew I had a role to play in my community’s well-being. However, after this training, I feel a stronger sense of urgency and responsibility to contribute to peacebuilding.” Fabrice Bamporineza noted, “I have learned that helping others does not require having a lot of resources. Even the smallest act can create a significant impact.”

The participants are expected to implement peace initiatives in their communities based on the knowledge gained during the training.
