The Aegis Trust deplores the large-scale, systematic killing and persecution of non-Arab citizens in Darfur by the RSF Janjaweed militia since April 15th.

Aegis notes the accelerating pace of violence against black Africans, especially Massaleit communities in Geneina and surrounding areas in West Darfur this week.

The appalling abduction and assassination of Khamis Abakar, Governor of West Darfur, following a televised interview in which he called for international intervention to stop renewed atrocities by the RSF, demonstrates the confidence of the perpetrators that they can kill with impunity.

We call on Sudanese citizens everywhere to stand united against the divisive racist ideology which underpins this violence.

We also call on the international community to provide protection, refuge and support for Sudanese citizens who the state is presently unwilling or unable to protect.

The perpetrators need to know that the World is watching. From Darfur to the Red Sea, Sudan deserves better than to be subjugated by criminals bent on exploitation and atrocity.

We stand with the people of Darfur and with Sudanese citizens of good conscience everywhere. We will not let the voices of the victims of this violence go unheard.
