Gemma Tumelty was re-elected National President of the National Union of Students by over two thirds of voting delegates at NUS’ annual conference.
Gemma won her election in Blackpool, meaning that she will serve another year until July 2008, when she will have completed her maximum two year term.
She commented-
“I am absolutely delighted with the result. I have spent the past year working hard for the students I represent and I look forward to being able to take NUS forward at a critical time in the development of the further and higher education sectors.”
Its absolutely crucial for Aegis Students to have the support of the NUS given that it represents every student in the UK whether in further or higher education. The NUS passed a policy motion in August 2006 to state its support for our work and is currently considering a new policy motion, submitted and pre-approved at the anual conference, which will solidify this support by guaranteeing access to NUS resources and placing us at the top of their agenda.
